Not a paid advertisement, we just love this First Aid Kit, and we have tried a lot!
As a Registered Nurse, safety is always on my mind when we explore new places, especially in New Mexico. Brandon has broken two bones while adventuring, Kai has had multiple falls and abrasions and me, lots of rolled ankles and bruises. :) I always research where we are going and I ensure I am prepared for injuries that may occur. We even have a snake venom sucker (not sure if that is what is it technically called) since there are rattlesnakes in the SW.
See the video below for a more in depth look into our kit.
We will eventually invest in a trauma kit as well since some of the locations we visit are super remote, but for now, our basic First Kit works great.
We took it out the other day on a hike and Kai was so intrigued. We love watching his eyes light up when we teach him new things. It's so important to teach children from a young age how to care for their wounds! My goal is to create a First Aid for Kids course in the future. I am school nurse right now, so this would be great for my community and the children in my family. Stay tuned for that!
MY MUST HAVES IN OUR FIRST KIT:
-Chewable Children's Benadryl: Kai has only been stung by bees and so I take precaution in case he's ever bit by some other kind of animal or insect. Chewable benadryl helps with moderate allergic reaction symptoms.
-KoBan or ACE wrap for rolled ankles.
-Snake venom sucker
-Tweezers for splinters
-Water filter: We don't carry this in our small first aid kit but its always on our person. It filters river water and even the nastiest water you can find. I never go without water or an alternative, especially with a toddler. They dehydrate so much faster than adults.
